Information on the reception held on the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia

On 26 May 2026, the Embassy of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia hosted a reception in Canberra to celebrate Georgia’s Independence Day. The event was attended by representatives of Australia’s legislative and executive branches, the diplomatic corps, scientific and academic circles, the private sector and media, as well as members of the Georgian diaspora residing in various cities across Australia.

In his ceremonial address, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia, Beka Dvali, spoke about the significance of 26 May, the centuries-long historical experience and cultural heritage of the Georgian nation, the achievements and challenges of modern Georgia, the priorities of Georgia’s foreign policy, and Georgia’s friendly relations with Australia and the countries of the Pacific region. It was also emphasized that this year Georgia marks the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion.

During the event, the national anthems of Georgia and Australia were performed by Australian musician and singer Jade MacFaull, accompanied on the Australian National Carillon by Dr. Thomas Peter Law, Director of the Canberra Carillon Ensemble.

Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to view a photo exhibition dedicated to Georgian cultural heritage in occupied Abkhazia.

It is noteworthy that, through the efforts of the Embassy of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia, the Australian National Carillon in Canberra was illuminated in the colors of the Georgian national flag, while on 24 May and 27 May 2026, the program of the Australian National Carillon included the Georgian national anthem and Georgian melodies.
