Information on Georgian Ambassador’s attendance at the joint briefing by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Justice of New Zealand

On 16 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to New Zealand (with residence in Canberra) attended the briefing organized jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Justice of New Zealand on recently adopted Crimes (Countering Foreign Interference) Amendment Act 2025 (https://www.justice.govt.nz/justice-sector-policy/key-initiatives/countering-foreign-interference) that entered into force on 27 November 2025.

The new amendments package to the criminal laws of New Zealand envisages strengthening measures for safeguarding such national interests as democratic development, elections, effective functioning of Government, security and economy.

It was underlined during the briefing that New Zealand expects foreign diplomats accredited to the country to respect local legislation and comply fully with the requirements of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations envisaging a duty of a diplomat not to interfere in the internal affairs of a receiving state.
