Information on the establishment of Georgia Country Group at Australian Parliament
On 26 November 2025, Georgia Country Group - Friendship Group with Georgia - was established at the 48th Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. The members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Australian Parliament have joined the Group from the ruling Labour Party as well as from the parties of the Opposition Coalition, namely, the Liberals and the Nationals.
The Chair of Georgia Country Group is Mr. Steve Georganas MP, the member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade and Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Migration, representing ruling Labour Party from South Australia. Hon. Mr. Michael McCormack, member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade and Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Innovation and Science, representing the Nationals from New South Wales, is the Vice-Chair of the Group.
It is noteworthy that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Milton Dick and the Chairperson of the Senate, Ms. Sue Lines have both joined the Group.
The establishment of Georgia Country Group at the Australian Parliament will contribute to the deepening of friendly relations between Georgia and Australia as well as be conducive to the development of inter-parliamentary links.
