Reception on the Occasion of Independence Day of Georgia in Canberra
On May 26, 2023 Embassy of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia hosted a reception on the occasion of Independence Day of Georgia in Canberra’s famous “Commonwealth Club”. The reception was attended by the representatives of Australian Governmental Institutions, Members of the Parliament including members of the Georgia-Australia friendship group, NGO-s, academic and business circles, Diplomatic Corps accredited in Canberra as well as Georgian compatriots.
The official toasts were proposed by HE Mr Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia and by Mr Ian McConville, Chief of Protocol of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia.
Beka Dvali addressed the audience, speaking about the importance of May 26th for Georgia, existing global and regional challenges. In his address, Ambassador talked about priorities of Georgia’s foreign policy, including European and EuroAtlantic integration processes, security challenges that Georgia faces due to the Russian occupation of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, Georgian support and solidarity towards Ukraine. In his address, Ambassador emphasized the importance of partnership and common values between Georgia and Australia, also highlighted Georgia’s endeavour in developing relations with other countries of the Pacific.
The guests had an opportunity to taste Georgian wines, Ch’ach’a and traditional dishes. In the end of the event Georgian export company based in Australia “Tamada” farewelled guests with gifts full of Georgian goods.
