Information on Georgia Independence Day Reception held in Canberra

On 23 May 2025, in Australia’s capital Canberra, the Embassy of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia hosted a reception marking the Independence Day of Georgia (26 May) at the Hotel Realm. The representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), other governmental departments, members of Parliament of Australia and councillors, non-governmental organisations, academic and business circles, the members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Canberra and Georgian diaspora members attended the event.

In the Independence Day Address, H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia and to other countries in the Pacific spoke on the significance of 26 May, reflected on the development of parliamentary democracy in Georgia and on country’s achievements in the course of democratic and economic transformation.  Ambassador highlighted Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, security challenges and continued efforts to strengthen Georgia’s sovereignty. Ambassador Dvali emphasized the importance of the partnership and shared values between Georgia and Australia, and highlighted Georgia’s diplomatic efforts towards developing relations with the countries throughout the Pacific.

During the evening, Embassy guests had the opportunity to observe exhibition featuring information about prominent Georgian writers and artists, Georgian cinema and music, Georgian script and literary heritage as well as enjoy video highlights of Georgia and its landmarks. Top varieties of Georgian wines were also served during the reception.
