Information on Qvevri Installation opening ceremony at the Embassy of Georgia to the commonwealth of Australia
On 21 March 2025, the Embassy of Georgia to the Commonwealth of Australia hosted a special ceremony to unveil a traditional Georgian Qvevri installation.
Qvevri, produced in Georgia, was generously donated to the Embassy by Georgian from Australia Mr. Lado Uzunashvili, a distinguished Georgian winemaker, Oenologist and founder of "Mukado wines”.
The Qvevri has been permanently installed on the porch of the Embassy of Georgia in Canberra. Alongside the Qvevri an informational plaque was installed to provide passers-by the insight into Georgia’s ancient winemaking tradition, promoting awareness of Georgian culture and viticulture.
Addressing guests, Ambassador of Georgia to Australia, H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali highlighted Georgia’s 8,000-year-old winemaking heritage. In particular he reflected on the unique method of fermenting wine in Qvevri - a tradition listed on UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Approximately 50 guests attended the event, including members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of government agencies and other distinguished invitees. Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a diverse selection of Georgian wines, including Qvevri wines.
