The welcome speech of the Ambassador
Thank you for your interest in the official web-site of the Embassy of Georgia in the Commonwealth of Australia. We hope this web-site will help you to find necessary information on political, economical and cultural life of our country. Our aim is to offer to all interested parties timely coverage of current events in Georgia, and provide information about Georgian-Australian relationships.
Both our countries are full fledged members of international community.
Georgia and the Commonwealth of Australia established diplomatic relations in 1992. 2011 marked opening of the Georgia Embassy in Australia.
Even though Georgia and Australia are separated by Oceans and Continents, a good potential exists for deepening of bilateral cooperation. A good example is our cooperation as part of International Peacekeeping Mission in Afghanistan. In addition, collaboration of our two Parliaments had a good start. In 2012, "Friends of Georgia" Group was established by Australian parliamentarians. Several high level visits took place in 2011-2012.
The opening of the Georgian mission is a good testimony to our intention to maximize our presence in Australia and the Pacific Region.
Recent economic, judicial and administrative reforms in Georgia increase Georgia's chances of achieving its main goal – European integration. NATO membership remains one of the main priorities of Georgian state and is considered as a guarantor of state security, sovereignty and peace.
We hope you will find useful information you receive through our web-site. We are open to your suggestions on how to improve our web-site.
